🎶 Členovia skupiny Jawa sa snažia zachovať a reinterpretovať hudobné dedičstvo sýrskeho mesta Aleppo, dávnu duchovnú tradíciu, ktorej existenciu v súčasnosti ohrozuje vojnový konflikt v Sýrii. Bohatá súfijská hudobná tradícia sa celé desaťročia prenášala z generácie na generáciu ústnym podaním. V dnešnej dobe je toto umenie súfijských majstrov na ústupe a preto je dôležité ho zachovať.
🔹 Hudobníci z ansámblu Jawa, ktorí momentálne žijú v Belgicku, šíria tradície predkov aj mimo svojej domoviny. K štýlu, ktorý sa pôvodne interpretoval á capella, postupne pridali aj hudobné nástroje a urobili ho tak ľahšie uchopiteľným pre súčasného poslucháča. Jawa vníma túto hudbu z osobnej perspektívy a dáva jej vlastnú víziu, pričom zachováva tradičné formy súfijského štýlu muwashah v spojení s orientálnymi rytmami a maqamami.
🔹 V roku 2023 nahrali úspešný album s názvom Last Breaths from Aleppo. Materiál z tohto albumu v úprave pre kvarteto v zložení Khaled Alhafez – spev, perkusie, Youssef Nassif – kanun, Tammam Alramadan – ney a Marwan Fakir – husle.
🔹 Okrem toho s týmito virtuóznymi hudobníkmi vystúpi aj tancujúci derviš, ktorý pomocou opakujúcich sa krútivých pohybov napodobňuje planéty obiehajúce okolo Slnka a týmto meditačným pohybom oslavuje boha a jeho stvorenstvo v božskej jednote. Ich koncert nie je iba hudobným predstavením, ale je to aj prejav kultúrnej rezistencie, spirituálnej kontinuity a zachovávania krehkej tradície, ktorú prenášajú ďalej ponad hranice a naprieč rôznymi generáciami.

🎶 The members of the group Jawa strive to preserve and reinterpret the musical heritage of the Syrian city of Aleppo, an ancient spiritual tradition whose existence is currently threatened by the war in Syria. The rich Sufi musical tradition has been passed down orally from generation to generation for decades. Today, this art of the Sufi masters is in decline, which makes its preservation all the more important.
🔹 The musicians of the ensemble Jawa, who are currently based in Belgium, spread the traditions of their ancestors beyond their homeland. To the style originally performed a cappella, they gradually added musical instruments, making it more accessible to contemporary audiences. Jawa approaches this music from a personal perspective and gives it their own vision, while maintaining the traditional forms of the Sufi muwashah style combined with oriental rhythms and maqams.
🔹 In 2023, they recorded a successful album entitled Last Breaths from Aleppo. The material from this album will be performed in an arrangement for a quartet consisting of Khaled Alhafez – vocals, percussion, Youssef Nassif – qanun, Tammam Alramadan – ney, and Marwan Fakir – violin.
🔹 In addition, a whirling dervish will perform with these virtuoso musicians, whose repetitive spinning movements imitate planets orbiting the Sun. Through this meditative dance, he celebrates God and His creation in divine unity. Their concert is not only a musical performance, but also an act of cultural resistance, spiritual continuity, and the preservation of a fragile tradition, carried further across borders and through generations.
