This workshop will be held in place of our regularly scheduled McIntosh County Family Connection Collaborative Meeting.
Workshop Purpose
The purpose of this workshop — including the presentation, activities, and group discussions — is to increase awareness and understanding of the root causes of poverty and explore the perspective and communication styles needed to build resilience in families and communities.
Our hope is to encourage participants to become poverty-informed and/or poverty-competent, strengthening our collective ability to support families and drive positive systems change.
Training Outcomes
Participants in this workshop will be able to:
• Differentiate types of poverty, including generational, immigrant, situational, and working-class poverty
• Recognize the structural and systemic nature of poverty
• Describe the emotional, behavioral, and identity impacts poverty can have on individuals and families
• Identify systemic barriers and existing supports within communities
• Propose strengths-based strategies and systems-change approaches to addressing poverty and building resilience
