Part of Villages in Action’s From Devon With Love artist development programme, this evening is all about taking creative risks and making space for experimentation, set in the welcoming and lively atmosphere of the Barrel House in Totnes, as part of the Totnes Fringe Festival. Whether it’s laugh-out-loud comedy or captivating dramatic monologues, each short set offers something unexpected – and your presence and feedback will help shape what comes next.

Song of the Deer Woman (Òran na Ban-Fèidh) by Kathleen McKee
Through costume, movement, song, spoken word, historical and cultural research, Kathleen explores two female archetypes to get a sense of our evolving relationship with land since the Mesolithic, as experienced through our relationship with deer. The materials and story are formed through her experiences with deer stalking, tanning, making drum, rattles, costumes, inspired by Dartmoor and the Gàidhealtachd’s folklore and landscape.
Identity, Complexity! (working title) by Al Head
In a time when questions of identity are at the forefront of public conversation, Al Head brings a powerful new solo show to the stage - blending narrative, spoken word, physical theatre, and original live music.
With raw honesty and poetic insight, Al dives into the shifting landscape of identity: How does it shape our sense of belonging and community? How can it both uplift and marginalise? What happens when identity becomes a dividing line rather than a meeting point?
Nothing Happened by Mila Oshin
Twenty years after moving to London as a teenager, Mila Oshin finds a box of letters in her father’s attic which are addressed to her, but which she has no recollection of.
As she starts reading, memories of a childhood and youth she tried to leave behind for good return, and threaten to unravel the life she has since built in England and everyone she holds dear within it.
A one-woman autobiographical comedy show that confronts us with the collective responsibility we carry for preventing young children from becoming vulnerable teens.
