Ever wanted to see your world change for the better, but not sure where to start? This series of free workshops will take the mystery out of change-making. These workshops are for anyone interested in creating social change. You are welcome to join any or all of the series.

1. SEPTEMBER 24 DESCRIPTION:
MOVEMENT ACTION PLAN
We’ll kick things off with a summary of the Movement Action Plan, featuring the 8 stages of social movements, and the 4 roles of advocates. We’ll do some fun excercises to help you figure out where you best fit in social movements. Are you a reformer, rebel, citizen or social change agent?
(Bill Moyer, author of Doing Democracy, mapped all this out back in the 1980s and even came to Tofino to offer a workshop—right before the rainforest movement achieved movement take-off! Presenter Dan Lewis was mentored by Bill himself.)
2. OCTOBER 8 DESCRIPTION:
GENERAL ASSEMBLIES
This session will focus on how to work together in cooperative groups. General Assemblies were used in the Clayoquot Summer 1993 protests, and were adopted by Occupy Wall Street and many other social movements. It is possible for large groups to discuss a topic and reach consensus!
3. OCTOBER 22 DESCRIPTION:
PEACEFUL DIRECT ACTION
Ever thought about joining a peaceful protest? This session will explore such topics as de-escalation, what constitutes violence, types of power, staying grounded, and some fun excercises to practice the learnings!
4. NOVEMBER 5 DESCRIPTION:
BEAUTIFUL TROUBLE
This session will pull together all the concepts introduced so far. We’ll use the Beautiful Trouble card deck to look at Theories, Principles, Methodologies, Tactics and Stories. The cards will then be used to work on a plan which could be applied to a local issue!
