Neurocounseling bridges neuroscience and counseling practice to help clinicians better understand the brain’s role in behavior, relationships, and emotional regulation. This training introduces participants to foundational concepts of brain-based therapy and explores how neurobiology can inform play therapy interventions. Special attention will be given to the effects of trauma on neural pathways, the role of the autonomic nervous system in regulation, and how play-based experiences can support neuroplasticity and healing. Through case studies and experiential practice, clinicians will learn to incorporate brain-informed strategies into their sessions—helping children and families strengthen self-regulation, process emotions, and build resilience. The workshop emphasizes translating complex neuroscience into accessible tools that empower both therapist and client in the healing process. 

Objectives: 

• Describe the role of neurobiology in children, adolescent, and adults regulation, play, and development. 

• Demonstrate three play-based strategies that promote neuroplasticity and self-regulation. 

• Integrate neuroscience-informed concepts into case conceptualization and treatment planning. 

• Assess the impact of trauma and stress on brain development and family functioning. 

• Apply neurocounseling principles to enhance client engagement and treatment outcomes. 

• Develop interventions that incorporate both brain-based science and cultural context.
