Welcome to the South Canterbury Eco Centre’s monthly “Eco Talk”. During the first week of each month we aim to have a presenter, followed by supper. These sessions will be a minimum of $5 per person and can be booked via our website. There will be door sales but we appreciate knowing how many we are catering for. We are excited to welcome Catherine Knight to talk about her newest work, An Uncommon Land. Learn about the history of shared land and resources (commons), how they were taken, and the potential for a re-commoned, sustainable economy in Aotearoa.
Dr Catherine Knight is an award‑winning environmental historian and author of several acclaimed books: including New Zealand's Rivers: An environmental history, Beyond Manapouri: 50 years of environmental politics in New Zealand and Nature and Wellbeing in Aotearoa New Zealand. Catherine works in public policy and is an Honorary Research Associate at Massey University.
Her newest work, An Uncommon Land, weaves together ancestral family stories and colonial history to trace how commons were enclosed—and offers a compelling vision for a regenerative, re‑commoned future.
Join us for what promises to be a stimulating Eco Talk - ideal for anyone passionate about the environment, social issues and resilience, and being part of meaningful change.
Whether you're curious about Aotearoa’s past or eager to help shape its future, Catherine’s talk will enlighten, inspire, and empower.
7pm – 9pm, speaker, Q and A, finishing with supper.
