Following on from our recent post marking the passing of longtime shooting advocate and SSANZ life member Chaz Forsyth, we’re proud to announce the inaugural Chaz Forsyth Memorial Hunter Match—a field-style steel target event open to all shooters experienced and not.
Whether you're a seasoned shooter or new to the sport, we invite you to join us in Fairlie for a weekend designed to celebrate and strengthen our shooting community.
This is the first in a series of upcoming matches aimed at reviving interest and participation in our sport—helping it not just survive, but thrive. It’s an opportunity to reconnect, share knowledge, and foster the next generation of responsible firearms users.
We invite other shooting organisations and clubs across all disciplines to touch base with us and we'll do our best to work in with you for future events.
🗓 TSSP Inter-Club Camp – August 2nd (Social Event)
🗓 Hunter Match – August 3rd (The Shoot)
🎯 20 targets, 125–700m
(If this range and distance sounds scary - It probably is. There will be ample opportunity for load validation and practice at range prior to the match itself)
🔫 One shot per target. Max 20 rounds needed. (Plus whatever you want to do for practice prior.)
📍 Sparrowhawk Range, 398 Blainslie Rd, Fairlie (4WD recommended)
This event also forms part of the Tertiary Student Shooting Program (TSSP)—an initiative driven by SSANZ in conjunction with Otago, Lincoln, and Canterbury University Hunting Clubs to give younger Kiwis a hands-on, values-led introduction to precision shooting and ethical hunting. These camps are helping create a pipeline of licensed shooters who will carry the torch forward, and is the first event of it's kind to try and welcome those from tertiary education institutions on board.
