The Geology of Cheese by Colleen Kurcinka
By day, she’s a geologist uncovering the secrets of the earth—and by night, she’s a passionate cheese enthusiast exploring the flavors shaped by it. With a career spanning government, academia, mineral exploration, and a 1-year stint working at a cheese shop, she brings a unique perspective to the table. Her deep understanding of landscapes and love of cheese make her the perfect guide for today’s journey into the geology of cheese.
This talk focuses on the seemingly insignificant interaction between geology and the cheeses we know and love today. From limestone caves in France to the top of the Swiss mountain tops, geology has played a fundamental role in influencing cheesemaking techniques throughout history. This talk will dig into the connection between texture, terroir and tectonics!
