Pebble Hill Plantation will join in the nationwide celebration of Take a Child Outside Week by hosting a free, family-friendly outdoor program on Saturday, September 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Pebble Hill Learning Center. This event is FREE.
Held annually from September 24–30, Take a Child Outside Week encourages children to engage in unstructured outdoor play while fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural environment. The event at Pebble Hill will feature nature-themed activities, games, and hands-on exploration designed to spark curiosity and creativity.
“Take a Child Outside Week celebrates opportunities for children to get outdoors and develop a better understanding of the environment in which they live,” said Pebble Hill Program Coordinator Kitty Spivey.
“We encourage families to come experience the joy of exploring nature together.” The benefits of outdoor play are well-documented—spending time in nature can reduce stress and anxiety, improve cognitive abilities, and inspire creativity. This year’s event draws inspiration from Richard Louv’s influential book Last Child in the Woods.
Louv writes, “We tend to block off many of our senses when we are staring at a screen. Nature time can literally bring us to our senses. Now more than ever, we need nature as a balancing agent.” Event Details: Date: Saturday, September 27Time: 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Location: Pebble Hill Plantation Learning Center
