This much requested group of regarded jazz artists/mentors has been a returning favorite at The Villages over the years. Finally, a mutually open date to bring them back! Profiled in the critically acclaimed book, “The New Face of Jazz,” Jacksonville Jazz Festival “Hall of Fame” inductees, vocalist Lisa Kelly and trumpeter JB Scott, perform with the stellar rhythm section of multi-talented pianist Jeff Phillips, top-call Disney staff bassist Jay Mueller, and former Navy Commodores drummer Clyde Connor.
Their versatile, entertaining sets feature creative arrangements from the Great American Songbook, to Traditional, and Pop favorites, in styles of classic swing, Bossa Novas, light funk, Sambas, Bluesy shuffles, Bebop, New Orleans grooves, and more. Lisa’s smooth, intimate vocal tone is her signature, a sophisticated ‘Ella meets Diana Krall’ relaxed song styling with an intuitive ‘horn influenced’ improv approach. JB’s sassy, soulful trumpet lines, a la Freddy Hubbard, Louis Armstrong, and Clark Terry, reflect years of playing in the venues of New Orleans, Miami, and beyond, on the bandstands of Tommy Dorsey, to Manhattan Transfer. Based in Florida, these five artists bring together notable careers of years in regional to international performances, from Walt Disney World, to jazz clubs, concert venues, jazz societies and major festivals throughout the U.S, Canada, and Europe. Music CD’s will be available at the concert.
This More Jazz Club event is for residents of The Villages and guests with a visitor pass. Doors open at 5:30pm. We have seating with tables and chairs, and you may bring your own beverage and snacks. Admission is $15 for member or $20 for non-members. Annual dues to become a member is only $10.
