“Weltering In Their Gore” A Candlelight Tour Of Monmouth Battlefield

Israel Shreve, Colonel of the 2nd New Jersey, recounted the aftermath of the Battle of Monmouth in a letter to his wife. “I viewed the field of battle where many British grenadiers and light infantry lay weltering in their gore.”

Back by popular demand! On October 18th at 5:45 PM, join a historical interpreter as they guide you on a lantern tour of Monmouth Battlefield on an October night. This event will offer visitors a unique perspective of the battlefield while guiding you through some of the areas that witnessed some of the most violent and bloodiest moments of the battle. Walk on the same ground where the Continental and British armies clashed while listening to grisly first-person accounts from those that experienced it firsthand. Learn about the battle’s horrific aftermath and the burial of those that fell on that scorching June day.

This event will be navigating unpaved terrain with minimal lighting and unfortunately is not ADA accessible. A flashlight (cell phone or external) is recommended for participants.
