Scholars from across disciplines in the Department of English at ASU present their research on the general theme of “censorship.” Topics covered include book banning in schools; John Milton and freedom of speech; Early American textbook censorship; censorship debates and rhetorical dichotomies; Hollywood regulation, censorship and pedagogy; and inhibiting the teaching of social aspects of language.
Each faculty member will speak briefly about their specific scholarship and then Christine Holbo, associate professor and chair of the department’s events committee, will moderate a group discussion and Q&A.
Featured faculty include:
* Josh Coleman, assistant professor (English education) -- "Challenging Classroom Censorship: Resisting Educational Censorship Policy through Teacher Agency"
