The Commons
An application-based day of quiet presence on the land
There are places we go to escape.
And then there are places we go to remember.
The Commons is a small, intentionally held, six-hour gathering on a working horse rescue ranch. It is offered for people who are tired of rushing, fixing, and performing—and who are ready to slow down and reconnect with what is real.
This is not a drop-in experience.
It is entered deliberately.
For that reason, The Commons is application-based, with limited space and careful selection to ensure the integrity of the group and the holding of the day.
This is not a luxury retreat.
It is a place of return.
How Participation Works
Because the Commons relies on trust, presence, and shared responsibility, participation happens in three steps:
Application
Interested participants complete a short application sharing what draws them to this experience and what they are hoping for at this moment in their lives.
Invitation
Applications are reviewed with care. Invitations are extended to those for whom the gathering feels like a good mutual fit.
Deposit to Confirm
A small, non-refundable deposit is required to hold your place. This confirms your commitment and helps ensure the group remains intentional and fully present.
This process allows us to keep the Commons small, well-held, and aligned in spirit.
What This Day Is About
We gather in a shared shelter—the Commons—centered around warmth, fire, and quiet presence. Horses are nearby, not as a spectacle or activity, but as calm, grounding companions. The land does much of the work. We simply make space for it.
This day is designed to help your nervous system settle, your attention soften, and your sense of connection return—without pressure to share, perform, or achieve anything.
You do not need experience with horses.
You do not need special preparation.
You do need a willingness to slow down.
What You’ll Experience
• A calm, unhurried arrival into a shared gathering space
• Time near horses that honors their nature—no riding, no pressure
• Gentle guidance, quiet reflection, and conversation by the fire
• Periods of silence and rest woven naturally throughout the day
• Nourishing food, warm drinks, and space to breathe
• A closing circle to support integration and re-entry
The rhythm is simple.
The space is carefully held.
Nothing is rushed.
What This Gathering Is Not
• Not a workshop
• Not group therapy
• Not a tourist experience
• Not physically demanding
This is a day of presence, not productivity.
The Setting
We gather outdoors in an intentionally simple, wind-aware shelter designed for comfort and safety in changing weather. The space includes comfortable seating, layered rugs and throws, warmth from fire and heaters as needed, shaded areas, and a clean, flushing bathroom with toilet and sink.
Rustic does not mean uncomfortable.
Simple does not mean careless.
Who This Is For
The Commons is especially well-suited for people who:
• Feel stretched thin or overextended
• Are navigating change, grief, or transition
• Work in caregiving, leadership, or service roles
• Long for connection without pressure or performance
• Want to slow down without disappearing
If this invitation feels like a quiet yes, you are likely in the right place.
Age Requirement
The Commons is designed for adults who are able to independently engage in a full day of quiet presence, self-regulation, and reflection.
For this reason:
Participants must be 18 years of age or older.
This gathering is not structured for children or teens, and the rhythm, pacing, and depth of the day assume adult capacity for sustained stillness, personal responsibility, and self-care.
We offer other programs and experiences at the ranch that are intentionally designed for youth, families, and intergenerational groups. The Commons is not one of them.

A Final Word
We keep The Commons simple on purpose.
Warmth matters more than polish.
Presence matters more than performance.
Listening matters more than answers.
If you feel called to pause, breathe, and be held by the land for a day, we invite you to apply.
Not everyone needs this.
But those who do, usually know.
