Dear Max Weber Stiftung – Georgia Branch office friends,
It’s our pleasure to inform you that we continue "Global History Series" and invite you to our lecture by Alexander Mikaberidze (Louisiana State University) "Modernity in Arms: The Napoleonic Wars and the Transformation of the World" on October 9, 2025.
The Napoleonic Wars marked a turning point that reshaped the political, economic, and cultural landscapes of the modern world. Stretching from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean, these wars disrupted colonial empires, accelerated the circulation of ideas, and transformed the balance of power across continents. They spurred innovations in state finance, warfare, and diplomacy, while also provoking resistance, revolution, and realignments far beyond Europe, from Latin America to the Middle East and South Asia.
This lecture examines the Napoleonic Wars as a transformative moment in world history, exploring their global reach, their role in shaping the nineteenth century, and their enduring legacy in the making of the modern international order.
