🎨 Trauma Healing Art Therapy Workshop – On-Site at Mount Makers Market!
Only $10 per person • 1-hour session
Trauma survivors, abused people of any age often find it difficult to open up about the roots of their states and history. They also tend to develop a way of becoming unseen, which makes it impossible for them to get engaged in activities that expose them, like performing arts or talking through meetings.
Turning drawing into a subtle, unrecognised element of indirect communication makes the participants feel safe about working their trauma out, as drawing happens in such an individually encoded way that it is merely impossible for anyone else than the artist themselves to decode the unverbalised messages.
Movement, generally, helps to release stress and tension, repetitive motion in particular allows us to reach a state of mindfulness which serves as a reset button to bring us back to our baseline. Repetitive, rhythmic, motion can also serve as a grounding exercise that allows us to release worry or perseveration. The repetitive nature of the motion allows us to think less about the how and what of what we are doing and focus in on how it feels to do the thing we are doing.
