Bringing musical joy to the streets and spaces of Somerset, The Sound of the Streets are a Taunton- based charity that also inspires and supports young people to make music.
Tonight’s benefit will feature their big band, their Street Beats drummers and some of the young musicians they support.
Their colourful and vibrant 12-piece band is packed with reeds, brass, drums and percussion and will end the evening, with smaller groups, drummers and solo acts leading up to them.
Come and listen to great music, dance and support the charity’s work, helping children and young people make music and bringing free events to the street of Somerset.
The band plays street and carnival music from around the world, pop covers and Somerset Songs. The band is led by street band veteran Tim Hill and features some great local musicians like Tom Francombe on sousaphone and drummers Jo Meikle and Sean O’Hara. The Sound of the Streets are working on a carnival band project in Bridgwater and youth drumming projects in Taunton and Bridgwater.
Over the last four years the charity has created many free evens and festivals and worked in schools and colleges, bringing some of the UK’s best streets bands and teachers to Somerset and is planning an international festival of street bands next year. The charity is supported by Arts Council England, Taunton Town Council, Actiontrack and Make Music Repeat.
