What is Dance Connection?
Dance Connection is a restorative movement practice. It offers anyone interested the opportunity to move to music in a way that is enjoyable, fun and freeing. There are no set steps and It is not designed for performance. People who practice Dance Connection pathways regularly describe an increasing sense of wellbeing, vitality, creativity and healthy, balanced embodiment.
What inspired you to teach Dance Connection?
I have been participating in Dance Connection workshops for over 5 years and have known and danced with the founder and creative director of Dance Connection, Julia Hope Brightwell for 10 -12 years. The Dance Connection pathways have been reliable portals into a deep sense of aliveness, joy, harmony and community. I feel a sense of wholeness that I don't often feel in everyday life. I work as a GP and I find the dances are the perfect antidote to my often overly stimulated, information processing mind. I can immediately drop attention into my body and feel in tune with its needs, inclinations and living wisdom. The harmony that occurs during parts of the pathways can be awe inspiring and very moving. I wanted to learn as much as I could about how all this works, so naturally felt an impulse to train as a teacher and share Dance Connection with others.
What is involved in a Dance Connection pathway?
A pathway is typically 75 to 90 minutes in duration. During the pathway participants will be guided though a broad range of dance and movement explorations. It is carefully crafted to allow you to go from warm up into more and more physically active dances that really get the body feeling energised and vibrant. At a certain point we reach peak activation and then gradually begin to slow down. There are then some slower and more mindful movement explorations before we reactivate again and close with some fun, playful dances. The music is also carefully chosen, is very varied and really has a big influence in creating a wonderful tone for the whole pathway.
