Join us for a unique and immersive Exmoor Game School experience! We've partnered with the fantastic Combe Sydenham Estate to give children and families a firsthand look at the journey of their food, connecting farming and nature in a memorable way.
The day will begin with a special Exmoor Game School session focusing on local deer. We'll explore why and how we manage deer on Exmoor, taking you through the entire process from a whole carcass all the way to a delicious venison burger.
This session will look at the preparation and eating of seasonal, local game that is available to us depending on the time of year - in this instance we’ll most likely be using a wild Exmoor Deer. These sessions are very much about learning and information, we are not here to tell people what they should and shouldn’t be eating…there is enough of that kind of thing already and none of it is particularly useful.
These sessions will involve the use of knifes, fire/stoves and we will be skinning and butchering game animals. It is a necessary part of the learning process and we do it with the utmost respect for the quarry we're eating. The children can get as involved as they like or watch and learn, there is absolutely no pressure for them to do anything.
The session is free but donations on the day will be most welcome.
All children MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
These sessions are super popular and book up quickly - we do operate a waiting/reserve list but this is ONLY for the session in question. We just don’t have admin capacity to roll it over.
