Serving Christ in Perilous Times
No careful observer of world affairs, whether they are a professing Christian or not, can fail to acknowledge that we are living in times of great uncertainty; this year has especially been characterised by a level of volatility that has impacted virtually every person living on the planet. And the prospects for next year are likely to be even worse!
Times of instability tend to instill a sense of anxiety and fear in the hearts of individuals, and when large numbers of people are afflicted with this condition, then it inevitably leads to civil unrest, anarchy, and even war, all of which are increasingly characterising this generation. In John 16:33, Jesus predicted that His followers would have tribulation in this world, and church history confirms this to be true. But it is not Christ’s intention for His people to remain in a perpetual state of fearfulness when He has personally made provision for them to experience His peace in their hearts as they pass through periods of great uncertainty and danger.
