Raamatuesitlus / Book presentation: "The Abyss in German and Baltic Culture"

We invite you to the presentation of the new co-edited volume "Der Abgrund in deutscher und baltischer Kultur / The Abyss in German and Baltic Culture" by Marco Pajević & Jaanus Sooväli.

The book explores the notion of the “abyss” – a crucial yet little-studied concept in cultural history, with a special role in German intellectual tradition.

With twelve chapters and a substantial introduction, the volume examines the abyss in German and Baltic cultures:
📚 in literature;
🎭 theatre;
🎮 digital games.

The recently published volume by Brill continues the work of Pajević’s earlier work "The Abyss as a Concept for Cultural Theory. A Comparative Exploration" (Brill, 2024).
✨ In total, twelve University of Tartu scholars contributed to these two volumes.

✒️ Jaanus Sooväli is a Research Fellow in Intellectual History.
