Näituseruum asub ühes Keskturu 2. korruse trellidega ääristatud müügiboksis, teiste kauplejate pindade vahel, seega saab sinna boksi siseneda avamisel või kokkuleppel kunstnikuga. sik-sak saeb ta vineerist jänesenahku, sik-sak põgeneb küülik üle hallivarjulise mälestusevälja. ta saab vaevu-vaevu minema, jõuab hingeldades babushka ukse taha. babushka laseb ta sisse, ta sõbrad juba ootavad teda. babushka on varjujänkude valvur. ta on heatahtlik nagu paljud meie vanakesed, ta valvab neid ja nemad valvavad teda. ta on lausa nii heatahtlik, et ei lase jänestel enam kunagi lahkuda. ‘väljas on ju ohtlik’ räägib ta neile, ‘siin minuga on parem’
aga babushka ei tea, et oht on juba ammu möödas. ta ei tea, et jäneste kinni pidamine võib talle endale saatuslikuks osutuda.
jänesed muutuvad aasta-aastalt aina kärsitumaks. nad kraabivad babushka betoonist seintesse sügavad vaod, üritades ängist pääseda. aega on nii palju mööda läinud, et nad ei mäleta enam, mille eest nad põgenesid. aga hirm on veel alles.
Kaevamine ja matmine käivad käsikäes, kuigi nende siht on sageli üksteisele vastanduv. Alatine katmise-koorimise tsükkel on vältimatu. Inimestena on meil iha lahata, iha aru saada. Ja siis kui on lahatud, jätame alles endale sobivad osad, ehitame neist oma minapildi šablooni. Kuid toored ülejäägid, need risti-rästi lõigatud servad ja nurgad on tegelikult need, mida tasub meil lähemalt uurida.

Loora Kaubi on Tallinnas töötav kunstnik. Tema tööd uurivad une, isikliku ja kollektiivse mälu ning väsimuse teemasid. Kasutades sageli lagunemisele kalduvat materjali, viitab tema looming minevikule kui koormale, milles talveuni kui metafoor võiks pakkuda võimalikku lohutust. Kaubi on lõpetanud LUCA School Of Arts’i kaasaegse kunsti magistriprogrammi, Eesti Kunstiakadeemia maaliosakonna ning on end täiendanud Viini Kunstiakadeemias ja praktikal Mexico City’s. Ta on pälvinud Eesti Noorte Kaasaegse Kunsti Liidu Nädalapreemia, Wiiralti preemia ning osalenud näitustega Belgias, Mehhikos, Austrias ja Eestis.

The exhibition space is located in a sales booth on the 2nd floor of Keskturg, set between other traders’ spaces. It’s possible to enter the booth of Keskpuur at the opening or by appointment with the artist. Nevertheless, the exhibition can also be viewed in its entirety through the bars of the booth during the opening times of the market. zig-zag, she is sawing rabbit hides out of plywood. zig-zag, the hare escapes across a grey field of memories. she barely gets away, arriving at babushka’s door, out of breath. babushka lets her in, the other rabbits are already there and waiting for their friend. babushka is the caretaker of shadow bunnies. she has good intentions, as do many of our elderly, she watches out for them and they watch out for her. she is so well-meaning that she never lets them leave.
‘its dangerous out there’ she tells the rabbits ‘you are better off here with me’. but babushka does not know that the danger outside has long passed. and she has no clue of the dangers of keeping them with her for so long.
as years pass by, the rabbits get increasingly impatient. they scratch deep scores in the concrete walls of babushka’s house, expressing their anguish. so much time has passed that they don’t remember anymore what they were running from. but the fear remains.
Digging and burying go hand-in-hand, despite their purpose often opposing one another. The perpetual cycle of covering and peeling is unavoidable. As humans, we have a desire to dissect, to comprehend. And when we are done dissecting, we select the parts that fit us, we build a template for our self-image. However, the raw leftovers, those cross-cut edges and corners are the parts we should take a closer look at.

Loora Kaubi is an artist working in Tallinn. Her work explores themes of sleep, personal and collective memory and fatigue. Often using material prone to decay, her practice evokes a sense of the past as a burden, with hibernation as a metaphor offering possible solace from it. Kaubi holds a MA in fine arts from LUCA School Of Arts, a BA degree from the painting department of Estonian Academy of Arts, has completed a portion of her studies in Vienna Academy of Arts and did an internship in Mexico City. Kaubi has been awarded the Estonian Association of Young Contemporary Artists weekly prize and she is the laureate of Eduard Wiiralt prize. She has participated in exhibitions in Belgium, Mexico, Austria and Estonia.
