About the event

Lecture by Ksenia Remezova "The White Cube: Who Should See Contemporary Art in Modern Galleries "
We invite you to the lecture of the educational program FLASH ART Gallery!

Ksenia Remezova - curator of the Graphic Gallery, art historian, will talk about innovation and turning points in the history of art that manifested in print and graphic art.

Our experience as viewers is no longer limited to traditional museum settings — contemporary art galleries have become equally important spaces for engaging with art. At the heart of many galleries lies the concept of the “white cube” — a minimalist, neutral space designed to focus our attention solely on the artwork.

In this lecture, we will explore how modernism introduced new exhibition strategies in the 20th century, giving rise to the white cube format that continues to shape the way we encounter contemporary art today. We'll also reflect on why galleries can sometimes feel intimidating, the common misconceptions people bring with them, and how adjusting our perspective can lead to a more enriching, personal experience with art.

Topics we will explore:
- The origins of the white cube and its connection to modernism
- How exhibition design evolved throughout the 20th century
- The difference between museum and gallery experiences
- Common myths and stereotypes about visiting contemporary galleries
- Why some people feel “lost” or unsure in front of contemporary artworks
- How to enter a gallery with curiosity instead of pressure
- Practical tips for making the most of a gallery visit today
