Please join Southwest District for their 1st Quarter business meeting followed by a CEU presentation titled:
Advancing PT's Knowledge on Prosthetic Componentry
as Michael Boman, PT, DPT, DN Cert., MTC & Scott Love, PT, DPT, DHSC, MPT
Date & Time:
February 24, 2026 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Location: Zoom
Target Audience:
Licensed Physical Therapists (PTs)
Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs)
Course Description:
Lower limb amputees (LLAs) may struggle with gait because of improper prescription and application of prosthetic componentry. Recently the criteria on prosthetic components and subsequent gait being taught to physical therapists and occupational therapists in entry level programs has drastically increased. Many times this is due to the introduction of advanced prosthetics including microprocessor components. This webinar is meant to equal the playing field for clinicians who have not been exposed to this new technology.
Course Objectives:
Identify and understand the various types of prosthetic sockets, suspensions, feet and knees and give a rationale for their use.
Identify the weight bearing and pressure relief areas of the contemporary prosthetic sockets (i.e. patellar tendon bearing socket, total contact, ischial containment sub-ischial).
Differentiate basic prosthetic components' biomechanics and alignment, fabrication and fitting principles of prosthetic devices with emphasis on the lower extremity.
Select the appropriate prosthetic device based on the patient’s diagnosis, gender, age and lifestyle.
Differentiate various environmental considerations and other important patient examination findings to determine their functional level(K-Level).
Evaluate a patient with amputation and develop a prescription recommendation for prosthetic components
Schedule:
6:30 - 7:00 pm Business Meeting
7:00 - 8:00 pm CEU Presentation
