Material Knowledge: Skill-sharing and Storytelling

As part of Keely McLavin’s exhibition Material Knowledge: An Embodied Archive , this workshop invites participants to come together to share and learn skills from one another, contributing to the broader archive of community-based knowledge. In this collaborative session, each participant will bring a skill they are passionate about—whether it’s a craft, technique, or personal tradition—and teach it to others in a supportive, hands-on environment.

Through this process, participants will not only transfer knowledge but also reflect on the stories, memories, and cultural histories attached to these practices. The workshop encourages the creation of new imagery, drawings, texts, or oral stories, all of which will be documented and added to the Material Knowledge archive, preserving these skills for future generations.

This session celebrates the power of collective memory and the ways in which knowledge can be passed down through generations.
