About the event

▎About the event

In Project Title : In Between Exhibition becoming a Presence, the artist and curator collaborated to reflect on the various steps required to complete an exhibition, ranging from "How was the proposal approved?" to "Where did the installation crew go?" Utilizing video, installation, and curation as the medium, the show allows the figures of collaborators—who were excluded or hidden during the exhibition production process—to re-enter the audience's view.

The opening event is structured as a guided tour followed by a discussion. We have specifically invited Chen Wei-Lun, a former independent curator and current Assistant Curator at the New Taipei City Art Museum, to act as the moderator. He will pose questions to Wang Young-Hsiang (the artist) and Chang Tsu-Wei (the curator).

The audience is also invited to join the conversation and consider how contemporary art exhibitions can respond to their own working environment and labor conditions, and further question the state of their own industry.

▎Event Schedule

13:30 Guided Tour Begins
14:30 Q&A Session Begins

▎Moderator

Chen Wei Lun (currently Assistant Curator at the New Taipei City Art Museum)

Born in Daya, Taichung, in 1991, Chen Wei-Lun holds an M.F.A. from the Department of New Media Art, National Taipei University of the Arts. During his M.F.A. study, Chen made a shift from individual creation to art history studies and curatorial practices with a long-term emphasis on image theories, media, and popular culture. Recently, he endeavors to treat Taiwan as the base for video art studies, depicting trajectories of video art development in the dynamic relationship of global and local with a reference to the contexts of politics, media, and culture in Taiwan in the 1980s. Chen partook in “Curators’ Intensive Taipei 19: International Conference and Workshops” co-organized by the National Culture and Arts Foundation (NCAF) and the Taipei Fine Arts Museum (2019) and the Open Curatorial School “The Seven Relations in Exhibition-Making and Beyond” organized by Taipei Contemporary Art Center (2015). His critiques and essays can be seen on ARTalks.

▎Interviewees

Wang Young-Hsiang(Artist)

Born in Taiwan, holds an M.F.A. in New Media Art from Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA).

In recent years, his work has focused on his observations of the Taiwanese contemporary art environment and spatial structural issues, drawing from his personal engagement in the art industry, including exhibition planning and installation execution.

He employs conceptual approaches, spatial installations, ready-mades, and video as his primary media. His practice revolves around the exploration and experimentation of spatial relationships, becoming an imagination of the marginal facing the center across perspectives such as geography, identity, and venue.

Through his works, he seeks to reveal things in life that are too fragmented or subtle to be noticed, prompting a re-examination of the meanings of space, boundaries, and objects. The reflexive questioning often present in his pieces also touches upon power and political relations, demonstrating a social concern for how we exist behind the form. His aim is to use his own experiences to probe the boundaries between art and society and to maintain a close connection to life.

Chang Tsu-Wei(Curator)

Utilizing modern poetry, site-specific work, and performance video as his media, he addresses the issue of transcendence in art. He previously favored using artistic means to challenge social structures and exhibition logic. Recently, he has focused more on art participation, trans-sensory spatial perception, and the constitution of rituals, attempting to use an occult/mystical approach to explore the essence of spatial experience. He employs the salon project "Sky Arena" as his practical realization. His critical reviews have been published in ARTouch, ARTalks, and The News Lens. Recent curatorial projects include Hiding Cat (Sky Arena, 2025) and The Coils of A Serpent Are Even More Complex Than The Burrows of A Molehill. (Chili space, 2025).
