What does it mean to be a snail in the modern world? Keeping their antennas up high and their gelatinous foot on the ground, they strive to go slow amidst the roar of scooters. Plumper leaves await somewhere, but most maps are not adapted to their itineraries—and yet, they set out on their own path, with nothing but a shell to face Taiwan’s twists and turns.
What do snails leave behind when they set out to build a new home? Is home a place, a feeling, a scent, a friend? Where are you coming from, and where are you going? Globally, as genocides unfold, borders harden, and fascism rises how can we reimagine our notions of home and belonging? If these questions interest you, come to SNAIL MAIL’s zine-making workshop. We will begin by introducing the basics of zine-making and its history, followed by some ice-breakers and a collective creating session inspired by the aforementioned themes. No experience is required! Materials will be provided. Whether you are just looking to wind down on a Sunday afternoon or wanting to tap into your creative side, everyone is welcome!
