Welcome to Your Authentic Indian Experience™ unpacks performance, possession, and the fragile line between who we are and what the world expects us to be. Jesse, an Indigenous man working in a virtual reality center, sells sanitized visions of Indigeneity to tourists looking for a spiritual fix. When a customer steps out of the simulation and into his real life, Jesse begins to lose his grip on what belongs to him: his name, his story, his place in the world. Roanhorse crafts a haunting tale about stolen narratives and the systems that feed on them. What is left of us when our stories are no longer ours to tell?
