Bio: Mike is a current and one of the newest members of our club. Mike has been drawing and painting ever since he can remember. It all started with the old Walter Foster books from yesteryear and primarily self-taught, through an extensive art program through middle school and high school and then in the early 80s after his high school years. We all remember following along with PBS Network with the greats: Bob Ross with his happy little trees, firing in with William Alexander, Jerry Yarnell and Wilson Bickford, just to name a few. That was really the only way for him to learn to draw & paint back in the day. He's always had a knack for creativity. And then in the early 2000s everything changed. He furthered his learning path with a few years and several semesters under the watchful eye of Alan Fink at Fink School of Traditional Art in Reisterstown. His process over the years has evolved and became more of a simplistic approach.
Description of Class (Golden OPEN Acrylics)
In this class Mike's going show you how to take the frustration out of acrylics. He will discuss the properties of this particular paint and how they differ and perform over standard acrylic paints. He will also discuss the importance of how to start and build a painting with very little effort. He will be demonstrating the start and the importance of the Imprimatur Bistre method (underpainting) to show how to simplify and speed up your painting process without the frustration. He hopes that with a strong finish in the class we can all in a Allaprima style complete a painting. He will also discuss composition, line, big shapes or masses and of course most importantly, values.
Oil painters are welcome in this style and technique.
Materials list
Mike will be providing all of the Golden paints needed along with thinners and mediums.
No need to buy paints.
Paint Brushes he recommends synthetic or watercolor brushes will work, hog hair or bristle brushes.

1"-2" hack brush
Smaller detail brushes if you have them
Other material needed:
Some sort of straight edge or mahl stick
Color shapers of you have, not necessary, Q tips, kneaded erasers and any other instruments that you can think of to make a mark with. And of course
paper towels and a water pail
Substrates to paint on would include a heavily coat gessoed canvas, we are looking for a relatively smoother finish for this method in which to paint on. Gessoed masonite, Gessoed foam core board will also work. He recommends nothing larger than 11x14. Mike will also have Substrates on hand if needed.
