It's a bit of a line up change for this gig, but that does mean it is finally a return to The Thursday Night Music Club stage for the most excellent Matt Owens!
Matt made his name playing bass with Noah and The Whale. Releasing four albums, Noah and the Whale achieved huge success in the UK and overseas, selling over one million albums in the UK alone. The band toured the world between 2006 and 2014, playing hundreds of festivals, including Austin City Limits, Fuji Rocks and Lollapalooza, as well as touring with the likes of Arcade Fire, Bahamas, and Laura Marling
Since the demise of Noah he has carved a neat niche in the Americana / Roots / Blues scene with his own music (usually with his ace backing band The Delusional Vanity Project) and has released a string of incredible albums. More recently Matt also joined up to play with the excellent Our Man in the Field, cementing his reputation as one of the foremost and most in demand performer and writer on the circuit today.
Support from Courting Ghost bass-man Andy Maggs.
Andy Maggs is an experienced bass player who learned his craft playing in the Bristol funk scene in the early 90's before joining popular Bristol combo K-Passa. A chance meeting with former Robert Plant guitarist Innes Sibun lead to many years of touring in UK, Europe and USA, followed by stints in JEBO and Littlemen, as well as Dep gigs with touring artists such as Keegan McInroe (USA) and David Celia (Canada).
Having become aware that he had missed out on some big tours, due to not doing backing vocals, Andy employed the services of legendary vocal coach Ruth Royally, who convinced him that a singing career was not beyond his abilities. During the pandemic Andy began writing his own material and honing his voice, leading to the recording of his initial release ' Concrete and Steel.
Andy continues to play bass with Indy Americana band Courting Ghosts.
