Battle of Ellendun - Free Diorama and display

This September take a step back into our Medieval past when we mark the 1200th anniversary of the Battle of Ellendun.

The battle took place in 825 CE, with Lydiard Tregoze and Wroughton identified as probable sites. It was at Ellendun that Egbert defeated Beornwulf of Mercia, which ultimately led to the creation of England.

Members of the Friends of Lydiard Park, Swindon and District War Games Club and Big Battles Ltd have drawn, painted and stitched the incredible Ellendun Diorama, complete with banners and interpretation boards that tell the story of this pivotal battle in England’s history.

This free exhibition will be open for 10 am – 4 pm in the Coach House from September 20 to October 22.
