Welcome to the Obstacle Challenge Day Clinic at CHAPS!
This Obstacle Challenge Day is the perfect opportunity for you and your horse to have fun, build confidence, and improve your skills together. It’s an opportunity to push boundaries in a safe and supportive setting, all while having fun in a friendly, non-competitive environment. Everyone will leave with a rosette, so there’s something to take home to mark your effort.
We’re excited to have you join us for a day of fun and friendly competition. Here’s what you can expect:
The day will kick off with a morning training session where we’ll go over the individual obstacles on the course. After a break, we’ll move into an afternoon session, where you’ll have the chance to practice the full course and then compete in your own timed round.
This event is all about having fun, so it’s relaxed and informal, with rosettes for everyone.
Horse Requirements:
Horses should ideally have some basic experience with obstacles (whether from previous sessions with me, TREC, WE, trail, agility, or similar activities). If your horse hasn't worked with obstacles before, they should be relatively confident and safe to participate in a group session without any known behavioural issues that might disrupt others.
Scoring & Rules:
The focus is on fun, so we keep things simple:
1. Scoring: Each successfully completed obstacle earns 1 point, a partially completed obstacle (e.g., if a foot misses the bridge or a pole rolls) earns 1/2 point, and 0 points are given for any missed or unsuccessful obstacles.
2. Timed Rounds: Your time will be recorded for each round.
The winner will be the combination with the highest score and the fastest time. You can choose to skip any obstacle you’re not comfortable with, but you won’t score points for obstacles you miss.
Participation:
You may create your own grass day paddock for in-between sessions - please bring fencing and tape with you.
You can choose to do the challenge either in-hand or ridden. For in-hand, I recommend using a long line or lunge rope. Feel free to use whatever tack and equipment you prefer, but please note that helmets and appropriate footwear are required for all sessions.
