About the event

Diesel Park West + support Dave Burn
What a few months it's been for our favourite melodic rockers from the East Midlands, and they'll celebrate with a return to the SL, where they played a superb set last September.

After more than 35 years of great music, Diesel Park West have recently been enjoying their first No. 1 single, via the huge success of 'Hole In One' on the Heritage Chart. That came on the back of strong reviews for their 2024 album 'Presley Trap.'

Now the prolific band led by songwriter John Butler have their latest set just released on CD via their website. 'Leicester?' is named after their home town and, to use their description, "may well include career-best songs such as 'Cold Midland Morning' and the classic 'Blood Red Roses' alongside No. 1 heritage single 'Hole In One' and of course sublime DPW rock n roll with just the right mix of intelligence and gut feeling."

DPW willl play songs from that new set, which will also be on sale on the night, plus of course the classic tracks that helped make their reputation in the first place (all the way back to the brilliant 1989 debut 'Shakespeare Alabama') such as 'Jackie's Still Sad,' 'When The Hoodoo Comes,' 'All The Myths On Sunday,' 'Bell Of Hope' and, from the early '90s, the equally brilliant 'Fall To Love.'

An unmissable night will be opened by a special guest we also can't wait to see. Dave Burn (whose current single 'Like A Flower' we LOVE) is a London-based rootsy folk Americana singer-songwriter distinguished by his memorable melodies and shrewd lyricism. Early on, he was hailed as capturing an atmospheric reality set somewhere between Neil Young and Calexico and Tom Petty.

He also currently performs alongside another highly talented singer-songwriter, Kirsten Adamson, in harmony-laden duo The Marriage and contributes regularly to Orphan Colours, another band he was fundamental in starting.

Dave first struck out on his own debut album 'Arizona' back in 2017, but before that broke through as the vocalist and guitarist of alt-country Americana band ahab, who impressed everyone with their seamless four-part harmonies and enjoyed a whirlwind few years on the Americana scene, gaining famous fans such as BBC radio DJ’s Bob Harris and Simon Mayo.

At various times Dave has gone on to co-write with many other highly regarded artists of the genre including Blair Dunlop, Danni Nichols, Benjamin Folk Thomas, Katzenjammer, Soi Heilo and Danny And The Champions Of The World, fronted by our very own Danny George Wilson.
