The old friends that make up Backbone Blues Band have simple aims: to play the music they love, and to entertain those kind enough to lend their support.
Recent successes include: a sell-out headline show at the iconic 100 Club’s ‘Tuesday Blues’; and many other blues clubs shows up and down the country – Whitby, Blackpool, Colne, Reading, Surrey, Looe to name a few; multiple trips to play in America’s Deep South, including two main stage appearances at the famous King Biscuit Festival; shows in New Orleans, Memphis, Baton Rouge, and at Clarksdale’s US #1 ranked Ground Zero Blues Club.
At their shows you can expect well-crafted original songs combined with carefully selected covers, played ‘Backbone style’.
You can find their recordings on all the usual streaming platforms, including ‘Backbone Live’, released at the start of 2025.
They hope you enjoy the music of Backbone Blues Band as much as they enjoy playing it.
Jimmy The Dog are Jim Ferrie (Guitar/Vocal) and Neil Packman (Harmonica/Slide Guitar/Percussion/Vocal). They really know how to get a crowd going with fast-paced bluesy-swingy originals and covers with Neil periodically meandering into the audience with his harmonica at full tilt.
Neil, based in Reading, Berkshire, never gets out of breath, probably due to his former years as a long distance runner and semi-pro footballer. It's not unknown for the duo to play for 3 hours!
As an experienced blues harmonica player, Neil's played in the Royal Albert Hall, been on TV and has recorded with a number of well known acts including Tyla Pallas leader 80's/90's rock band Dogs D'Amour, with whom he was on tour with during 2017. He also once guested with Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes in New Jersey of which he is, quite rightly, very proud.
