Derrick’s Journey: A Miracle in Motion
In 2009, Derrick survived a devastating car accident that left him with a spinal cord injury and multiple fractures. He flatlined several times, but through expert medical care and the prayers of thousands, he was miraculously revived. After being transferred to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Derrick defied expectations — regaining his voice, movement in his arm, and rebuilding his life with courage and determination.
Derrick went on to become the Events Director at Cape Fear Vineyard & Winery, where he planned over 200 weddings and became known for his creativity, compassion, and ability to bring joy to every event and every person he served.
In recent years, Derrick has faced new medical challenges, including multiple pressure wounds and a serious bone infection. Then, in July 2023, another car accident totaled his wheelchair-accessible van and destroyed a brand-new power wheelchair he had received just five days earlier — a devastating setback.
Now, Derrick needs our community more than ever as he focuses fully on healing.

• Transportation needs and, eventually, a new wheelchair-accessible van
• Medical costs for an upcoming skin flap surgery and aftercare
