***** Now some words from Fidel Castro *****
My name is Fidel Castro Jr., though to most who know me, I’m simply “Fido Jr.” At the heart of my life is my family—a family of seven blessed with love, resilience, and joy. I share my days with my beautiful wife Alma, our three handsome boys (Fidel III, Xathian, and Isaiah), and our two wonderful daughters (Baby Angel and Vianney), who together give me purpose and strength.
For more than two decades, I have poured my passion into coaching baseball. Over 22 seasons—20 with the Grandview School District and two with the Sunnyside School District—I have had the privilege of mentoring countless young athletes. The ballfield has been more than just a place of sport; it has been a classroom of life lessons, teamwork, and perseverance, not only for my players but for me as well.
In 2019, my life took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Disease. This diagnosis began a journey that brought me under the care of the dedicated team at the UW Medical Center in Seattle. Despite the challenges, I have tried to meet each step with faith and determination.
In 2023, a CT scan revealed a small mass, just 0.6 mm. By March of 2025, it had grown to 1.4 cm, which led to further testing—a PET scan in May, a biopsy in June, and finally, surgery in July to remove both the mass and a lymph node. These moments tested me deeply, but they also reminded me of the importance of hope, family, and community.
Now, I face my next chapter: chemotherapy at Fred Hutchingson Cancer Center in Seattle. Though the road ahead will be difficult, I walk it with gratitude for the love that surrounds me, the lessons baseball has taught me, and the unwavering belief that perseverance and heart can carry me through. Thanks to my family and friends with all their love, support, and positivity, I/we will get through this! #Fidel’sFight, #FidoJr’sFight, #CastroStrong
