Description:
Filial Play Therapy is a psychoeducational model of family play therapy developed by Drs. Bernard and Louise Gurney. In this model, therapists teach parents to conduct non-directive play sessions with their children using the skills of Child Centered Play therapy.

This not only allows parents to better understand and respond to children’s emotional needs through play but also positions parents as primary change agents. The therapist’s role is that of trainer and supervisor, providing training in specific play therapy skills and feedback on their skills. Although initially developed as a group family program, filial therapy can also be provided to individual families to address a wide array of issues and concerns. This workshop provides an overview of the model and its application.
