Book Club

In September, Let’s Read! will discuss James by Percival Everett.

The novel James, winner of the 2024 National Book Award in the fiction category, flips the perspective of the events in Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Everett tells the story in the voice of Jim, renamed James, the novel’s enslaved runaway. This radical perspective shift fills narrative gaps with humor and horror, highlighting the true realities of a runaway slave making his way through antebellum America.
