Writers' Workshop and Book Reading

As part of our Tales from the Museum short story and poetry contest, we are thrilled to host a special evening with author and professor Bill Gillard. Bill, who teaches creative writing at UW–Oshkosh and specializes in early 20th-century speculative fiction, will lead an interactive writing workshop and share a reading from his newest book, The Wrong Shadow: Fox River Hauntings—a collection of historical short stories set for release this month. During the workshop, participants will dive into the essentials of great storytelling: creating memorable characters, crafting engaging plots, and bringing settings to life. Bill will cover techniques for writing authentic dialogue, building tension, and choosing the right point of view, along with tips for revising and strengthening your work. Writers of all experience levels are welcome, and attendees will leave inspired and equipped with practical tools to elevate their own stories.
