❓ Studley Repair Café – Your Questions Answered
🔧 What is a Repair Café?
A community event where people come together to lend a hand, share skills, and have a natter while getting broken household treasures working again. It's all free (though we’ll never say no to a donation to keep the kettle boiling).
✅ What can I bring for repair?
We'll take a look at most small household items, including:
✔️ Small kitchen appliances – Toasters, kettles, coffee makers, blenders, food processors
✔️ Cleaning equipment – Vacuums, carpet cleaners, handheld dust busters, general cleaning devices
✔️ Entertainment devices – Game consoles & controllers, DVD players, VCR players, radios, record players, flat-screen TVs (we can't repair CRT/tube TVs due to high voltages, or TVs with broken LCD panels)
✔️ Household electronics – Lamps, fans, electric heaters (non–oil filled)
✔️ Computers & accessories – Laptops, keyboards, mice, printers (basic fixes)
✔️ Clothing & textiles – Buttons, zips, patching. etc
✔️ Bikes & scooters – Brake/gear tweaks
✔️ Clocks & watches – Let us know beforehand so our clock repairer is ready
✔️ Gardening tools – Shears, secateurs, lawnmower blades sharpened
💬 Not sure? Contact us and we'll give you a straight answer.
⏳ How long do repairs take?
Most are done during the session. If more work is needed, that is a private arrangement between you and the repairer.
☕ Can I just come for tea and a natter?
Absolutely. Some people say it’s the best part of the day.
💰 How much does it cost?
Repairs are free, but cash donations keep us ticking along.
If parts are needed, you’ll need to cover those yourself.
🚫 What don’t we fix?
For everyone’s safety:
❌ High-voltage items – Microwaves, electric showers, immersion heaters, hard-wired cookers/ovens, industrial kit, CRT style TVs
❌ Radiation-emitting items – Old smoke detectors, UV sterilisation lamps, X-ray equipment
❌ Pressurised items – SCUBA tanks, fire extinguishers, high-pressure steam systems, refrigeration units, gas cylinders, pressurised fuel tanks
❌ Large vehicles – Cars, planes, boats (the Parish Centre still hasn’t got a runway)
🛠 Do you take items for donation?
If you want us to fix something for someone else, we can do the repair, but we cannot arrange who it goes to afterwards.
🅿 Is there parking?
Yes, there is free parking at Studley Parish Centre.
🙋 We Need Volunteers!
We are busier than ever, and without more help, we might start wobbling like a dodgy dining chair.
If you have skills in woodworking, electrical, sewing, mechanical work, would like to learn, or can help with meet-and-greet, tea-pouring, or keeping things organised, we would love to hear from you.
We especially need someone who can document our events with photos and help us build a proper archive of our Repair Café in action.
