We are thrilled to welcome back Ibrahim Kamara, master drummer from The Gambia, for a new series of Adult Drum Circle Sessions at AMusEd!
Ibrahim learned djembe the traditional way—through immersion, community, and cultural storytelling—guided by masters who passed down rhythms through generations.
✨ Why a Drum Circle and not a “class”?
In West African tradition, the drum circle is a communal experience, not a structured Western lesson. It brings people together in unity, communication, and shared expression.
Drum circles historically marked important community events, strengthened social bonds, and created a space where all ages and skill levels connected through rhythm.
Djembe drum circles foster togetherness, cooperation, and collective energy, allowing participants to express themselves freely within the supportive structure of the group.
Djembe itself comes from the phrase “Anke djé, anke bé” meaning “everyone gather together in peace,” revealing its purpose as a unifying cultural force - Let's Gather all together in this Drums Circle Starting on February 16th 2026.
