Meet Lion Rick, the Poplar Hill Lions, the many dignitaries and CTV for the ribbon cutting of the Wheelchair Swing at noon.
Go back in time a couple of years and Lion Rick Castle met a couple of grandparents struggling to move their grandchild out of a wheelchair and onto a swing.
His curiosity found a wheelchair swing that he thought would cost $70,000 - but actually needed $88,000.
Lions Rick decided to turn empty bottles and cans into a wheelchair swing. From his first 10c can and 20c bottle return, the collection snowballed as the Poplar Hill & District Lions Club joined his crusade and other very generous Lions clubs, clubs of various groups, companies, our community, other individuals and our municipality just kept giving, bursting the $88,000 target! Lion Rick' dream turned has been installed and turned into a reality for all the kids out there.
Come and visit Poplar Hill Park at the Cruise-In and Pancake Breakfast. Breakfast is served in the morning, burgers in the afternoon and a park full of custom, muscle and vintage cars all day!
The Lion Rick and the Poplar Hill Lions would like to thank everyone for their amazing support. . . but not as much as the children who will be able to enjoy the fun and freedom of the swing!!
