Police cooperation among EU member states is more necessary than ever, as Europe faces increasingly complex security threats. The list of serious crimes is long: organised crime, drug trafficking, money laundering, euro counterfeiting, human trafficking, cybercrime, and terrorism.

Where do we stand today, and what comes next?

This debate will move from practical cross-border police cooperation on the ground – with insights from the Franco-German operational unit – through to the policy level, looking at the work of the European Parliament and the European Commission.

Joining us as guest speakers are:

- Magnus Brunner, European Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration. He is the European Commissioner responsible for strengthening Europe’s internal security. His tasks include implementing the new European Internal Security Strategy, leading efforts on the fight against serious and organised crime and leading the work on a new Counter-Terrorism Agenda.

- Lena Düpont, Member of the European Parliament from Germany. She is the Coordinator of the European People’s Party in the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs and she is Vice-Chair of the Intergroup on the Police.

- Bertrand Loubette and Andreas Persch, heads of the French and German detachments of the Franco-German operational unit. Made up of officers from Germany’s Federal Police and the French Gendarmerie Nationale, this unit supports policing at major transnational events, such as demonstrations and large gatherings, and carries out joint border patrols, real-time operational information exchange, and mutual support during crises or special operations.
