James Marais and Monique Cassells are renowned for their “oldies” music tribute shows, and have been performing together since 2009. They have now produced “Rock Around the Jukebox”, a tribute to legends from the 1950s and 1960s, including Bill Haley and the Comets, Elvis Presley, Chubby Checker, the Beatles, the Everly Brothers, the Platters, Cliff Richard, the Beach Boys, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Little Richard and more. Just as with their previous shows, “Rock Around the Jukebox” is a mini-theatrical experience, featuring the dynamic vocal and visual performances of James and Monique, alternating as a duo and individual performers, who also do multiple costume changes throughout.
James Marais is the no. 1 Elvis Presley tribute artist in the country, and has appeared on television several times, including appearances on SABC 2’s game shows, “Noot Vir Noot” and “Musiek Roulette”, as well as Kyknet’s “Jou Show”, presented by Emo Adams. After winning the title of South Africa’s no. 1 Elvis Tribute Artist at the Elvis Festival Africa held in Storms River Village, Tsitsikamma (Eastern Cape) in April 2010, James participated in the Elvis World Cup, held in Cardiff, Wales in 2010, finishing fourth out of the 11 countries participating. James never fails to impress with his authentic renditions of Elvis songs, but also pays dynamic tributes to other legends such as Cliff Richard, Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison.
Monique Cassells has developed a reputation of being a powerhouse, versatile and engaging performer, and is a very accomplished vocalist, having performed many different genres of music over the years, including rock ‘n roll, rock, pop, country, blues, ballads and even light classical. She made her television debut on SABC 2’s “Musiek Roulette” in May 2018. Monique has dazzled many an audience with her renditions of timeless songs such as The Righteous Brothers’ “Unchained Melody”, while being able to belt out rock ‘n roll classics such as Little Richard’s “Good Golly Miss Molly”, and also pay tribute to the Doo-wop genre with the Platters’ “The Great Pretender”, among many others.
James and Monique also perform duets of legendary songs in their unique style, showcasing their harmonies, including renditions of songs by The Everly Brothers and The Beatles, as well as hit songs not previously performed as a duet.
Expect to be transported back in time to when rock ‘n roll music ruled supreme, and produced some of the greatest singers and musicians of all time. James and Monique will take you there, and have you rocking around the jukebox with their energetic, colourful and entertaining show!
