Mighty Mayo River Trip January 17th
This is our 21st year!
MMRT 2026 will start the morning meeting at 9:30 at Lot 2540 which is located on 103 Stone Street in Stoneville NC. We will have several parking areas set up and ready for you. We will be able to drop off our food donations and our household donations on site!
Bring your best and soon-to-be best friends. Invite your crew and the up-and-coming new boaters in the community. Many valued friendships have been made on this trip. We will have Gauley boaters, Green River boaters and punks like you and me. New boaters are strongly encouraged. If you can stay afloat in low class 2 rapids, come on down. Life jackets are required. Helmets are required for any boat in which the paddler wears a skirt. I'll be wearing one while paddling a canoe.
Food Pantry Donations
Bring every bit of food in your house and then shop for more. Canned goods to feed the local community. Pop tops are helpful, and canned meats are a prize donation. Please make this a priority and remember, too much is never enough!
Thrift Store Donations
New this year! Lot 2540 funds itself by selling gently used furniture, household items, tools, kitchen appliances, jewelry, seasonal items, pictures and Knick knacks. How about bringing those things of value laying around the house that you haven't touched in a few years, but that would sell in a thrift store!
I am so excited about this opportunity to fill the store up with like new items to sell ! Clear out those pantry's and storerooms.
(Liz and I have sent jewelry, vases, planters and lawn chairs)
River Clean Up
Superintendent Sam Koch will be leading the charge for the clean-up. Anna Wheeler with DRBA will be a big part as well! We'll make sure the Mayo Riverbanks get some love from the MMRT 2026!
Legendary Potluck Social and Hot Chocolate Station
Matt Czajkowski will return with his massive cooking station.
He will be set up at the intersection of Old Anglin Mill Road and Mayo Beach Road.
You foodie types, this is your chance to shine! From Shrimp Cocktails, Randy's Potato Soup, Spinach Fettuccini Chili Crisp, homemade Chili...... Do you get the picture? Bring your best and impress me!
Bring your cups and beverages. We'll have plates, bowls and utensils!
MMRT 2026 is a Canoe/kayak trip on the N Fork of the Mayo river. Located around Stoneville NC Gentle class 2 river trip with a couple challenging rapids at the takeout. These are easily walked. test your skills on the World-Famous "Boiling Hole" and "S Turn" rapids if you dare.
Glitter Station
Duke Bryant will be running our very first glitter station! Looking forward to seeing some stylish boaters!
Pro Tips
Get a biscuit from Debbie's in Stoneville. Cat head biscuits are the real deal, so budget plenty of time to pick one up. Our meet spot, Lot 2540 is just a couple blocks away.
Arrive early so that after a biscuit, you can drop off your food panty and thrift store donations and change into your drysuit or River Wear. Shift your boats to a trailer or a friend's car.
Morning Welcome
We'll have a somewhat brief meeting with words from Lot 2540, DRBA, the Dan Riverkeeper, Lindsay Pegg with Rockingham County Tourism Manager, Mayor Kathy Galvan and Superintendent Sam Koch.
We'll head to the put in in 2 waves and hopefully get on the water around 11:30 and arrive at the takeout shortly before 3pm. Some will run shuttle, and the rest will do a cleanup as the cookout station is getting setup. Sounds too good to be true, right?
Bring it!
