On the night of Lucia we gather not just for music and celebrations but to honour a woman whose courage outshone the darkness around her.
Lucia stood her ground against every force trying to control her,
so on her night, we celebrate exactly the way she deserves:
by losing ourselves on the dance floor.
Lucia’s story can be read as a woman resisting: refusing a forced marriage, giving away her wealth on her own terms, and defying both a suitor and the state when they tried to punish her through sexual violence. Her martyrdom becomes a symbol of radical female autonomy: a body that men could not move, burn, or command.
