Oppressionism: Defender Eagle Art Show and Discussion

Casual Scene is honored to be hosting Oppressionism, an art show and discussion, on September 12 at 6 pm. James Starkey, whose Lakota name is Defender Eagle, is an artist, poet, and author of the book, "Tapestry of a Common Man." Starkey's art reflects concerns about both historic and contemporary Native American life. Additionally, he is a musician and flute maker, creating flutes entirely by hand. Starkey's art and writing serve as a means to share his vision and culture with others and to preserve history in a way that honors the Lakota people.
