About the event

a night of poetry at Bound to Happen Books - C. Kubasta, P.R. Dyjak, Emilie Lindemann
a night of poetry at the bookstore!

Poets C. Kubasta, P.R. Dyjak, and Emilie Lindemann will be sharing poems from their respective books and take questions about their artistic process. Each poet has their own unique voice, background, and focus - the night is bound to be full of artistic exploration.

C. Kubasta -
A Wisconsin native, C. Kubasta experiments with hybrid forms, excerpted text, and shifting voices –her poetry has been called claustrophobic and unflinching. Her characters are complex, flawed, and she loves them all.

Her newest poetry book is Under the Tented Skin, was released with Unsolicted Press in 2025. “The poems in Under the Tented Skin explore the experiences of women & girls through folkloric history, discursive memory, and spectacle. Visiting and re-visiting situations all-too-common, Kubasta asks the reader to inhabit close quarters, from early socialization of girls to rural teenagerhood, to adult womanhood and its traps. She warns “I don’t throw the skins away / and I’ve been known to gnaw a bone.”

She is the Executive Director at Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts, Vice President of the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets, and serves as Assistant Poetry editor at Brain Mill Press.

P.R. Dyjak -
P.R. Dyjak [aka Patricia R. Dyjak, aka Pat] is a poet and retired, disabled professor of English who taught creative writing, ethnic literature, literary theory, and composition at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. Social justice issues are of great importance to Dyjak. She is a lyrical poet trying to be brave enough to push her language and silence to do more. Pulitzer Prize winning poet Carolyn Kizer said that Pat’s poem “Killing Angels” was “brave”. She lives with her dog Zoey and cats Flora and Chianna in the very green city of Stevens Point in the very white, northern part of WI. Her recent poems have appeared in bramble, the publication of the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets, and were part of the April Showcase on Brain Mill Press’ website. Her chapbook Symphony for the Cutters (2013) is available through Kattywompus Press, Boston.

Emilie Lindemann -
Emilie Lindemann is the author of Ghost(ed) Woman & the Electric Purple Pants (Fresh Water Press, 2025). Previous publications include a full-length poetry collection, mother-mailbox (Misty Publications, 2016), as well as several chapbooks, including Capsule Wardrobe for the End of the World (dancing girl press, 2019). Emilie holds a PhD in English-Creative Writing from UW-Milwaukee. She is a Communications Instructor at Lakeshore College and serves as a poetry editor for Stoneboat Literary Journal. She lives on a dairy farm in Wisconsin with her husband, son, and border collie. Her days are lined with lavender, chicory root, Queen Anne's lace, and red clover.
