BATS Theatre invites actors to audition for Bigot at the Banquet, a darkly funny and unsettling new play written by and directed by Leo X. Robertson — a many-time award-winning feature film director (Searching for Veslemøy, Dead Northern Film Festival 2022) making his theatrical directorial debut.
Set in modern Oslo, Bigot at the Banquet is an intimate, tension-filled drama about masculinity, moral performance, and the terrifying ways people make their unhealed wounds other people’s problem. Think Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? meets Festen — with a twist of Scandinavian politeness and awkward laughter.
If it goes well, Leo plans to adapt it into a feature film with the same cast!
🧍♂️🧍♀️ Characters
(Ages are flexible; casting will prioritise chemistry and authenticity over specific age brackets.)
DUNCAN (30s–40s): A foreigner trying to make a moral home in Norway. Intelligent, defensive, self-righteous, and painfully self-aware.
MALCOLM (30s–40s): Duncan’s partner — socially smoother, emotionally repressed, and perpetually in the role of peacemaker.
HÅKON (30s–40s): Malcolm’s new best friend. Charismatic, opinionated, and deeply insecure beneath his confidence.
METTE (30s–40s): Håkon’s wife — witty, perceptive, and too emotionally intelligent for the men around her.
BENTE (30s–40s): Mette's old friend. Kind, awkward, and increasingly aware that she’s caught in the crossfire.
All roles are open to interpretation and flexibility in age, gender presentation, and background. We welcome actors of all identities and experience levels who are excited to explore complex, character-driven material.
