The Twin Lights Lighthouse is located in Highlands, New Jersey, overlooking Sandy Hook Bay and the entrance to New York Harbor. Originally built in 1828, it became a significant navigational aid and was the first lighthouse in the U.S. to use the Fresnel lens. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1949 but remains a National Historic Landmark, offering visitors a glimpse into maritime history and a museum showcasing its artifacts. Visitors can enjoy stunning views from the towers and participate in educational programs about lighthouse technology and history.
