Atabak Elyasi is an independent, award-winning composer, arranger, poet, and producer. He holds an M.A. in Music Composition from the Music Department of Tehran Arts University (TAU), where he later served as a faculty professor and headed the Composition Department for 12 years. Mr. Elyasi has developed a highly personal and distinctive compositional style, deeply rooted in Persian classical and regional music traditions, interwoven with elements of Western music, and enriched by contemporary and innovative expressions. His body of work includes numerous compositions and recordings, reflecting collaborations with many of the world’s leading musicians and ensembles, including the Kronos Quartet, Tord Gustavsen, SKRUK, Ara Dinkjian and Tamer pinarbaci, Amsterdom Sinfonietta, KORK (Norwegian Radio symphonic Orchestra) , Pacific Symphonic orchestra and others. These creative partnerships have led to a diverse and wide-ranging repertoire shaped by musical dialogue and artistic exploration.
For over two decades, Atabak Elyasi has shared a profound musical collaboration with Mahsa and Marjan Vahdat. He has composed, arranged, written poetry, and performed on many of Mahsa’s albums, including I Am Eve, Songs from a Persian Garden, Twinklings of Hope, Placeless, Enlighten the Night, and Braids of Innocence.
In addition to his work as a composer and performer, Mr. Elyasi has spent nearly 40 years dedicated to music education. He has taught western music and Persian classical music to many students, mentoring a wide range of artistic projects and guiding new generations of musicians and composers.
